About This Pillar
1. Safety & Health (The Foundation’s Core) The 3,500 Helmet Challenge: Complete the distribution of high-quality, branded helmets to reach the remaining 2,300 riders across the five wards. First Aid Training: Partnering with the Red Cross to train "First Responder" riders in each stage to handle road emergencies, given that Boda Bodas are often the first on the scene of accidents. Reflector Jacket Standardization: Providing high-visibility gear to ensure 24/7 safety, especially for riders on the Nanyuki-Nyahururu and Nanyuki-Meru highways. 2. Financial Empowerment & SACCO Support Fuel Subsidy & Bulk Buying: Leveraging the power of Boda Boda SACCOs to negotiate bulk fuel discounts at specific petrol stations in Nanyuki and Umande. The "Hustle to Asset" Program: Facilitating access to low-interest credit through the WaSammy Foundation to help riders transition from "renting" bikes to owning them through hire-purchase models that aren't predatory. Digital Integration: Introducing a localized rider app or directory for Laikipia East to help riders in wards like Ngobit and Tigithi connect with customers for luggage and farm produce delivery. 3. Infrastructure & Welfare Modern Boda Boda Sheds: Constructing solar-lit, weather-proof sheds at major stages (e.g., Nanyuki Main Stage, Thingithu Market, and Umande Center). These sheds will double as mobile charging hubs for phones and future electric bikes. WaSammy Foundation Welfare Fund: A community-contributed emergency fund to support riders and their families in case of injury, illness, or bereavement, ensuring the family unit remains stable. 4. Legal & Regulatory Navigation Licensing Clinics: Organizing "Mass Licensing" days in collaboration with the NTSA to help riders get their Class A licenses without the bureaucratic hurdles and high costs that currently keep them "unauthorized."
