πΏ Serving With Dignity: Elderly Food Distribution Drive β Waguthiru
As the year closed, the spirit of the festive season is often measured by the noise of celebrations. But in Waguthiru, Tigithi Ward, we chose to find that spirit in the quiet, meaningful corners of our community β in the homes of our elders.
Last December, the Team WaSammy, Destiny Sisters, and friends touched down in Wathituga for our Elderly Food Distribution Drive.
Our mission was simple but vital:
- β To ensure those who raised us were not forgotten.
- β To honor the mentors who shaped our community.
- β To support the pillars who built the foundations of Laikipia East.
π More Than Just a Hamper
In the current economic climate, our senior citizens are often the hardest hit. Physical mobility challenges and rising costs can make basic nutrition a daily struggle.
We didnβt just want to provide a "handout" β we wanted to provide:
- πΎ A hand up.
- π€ A message of appreciation.
- β€οΈ A reminder that they are valued.
Each distribution package was thoughtfully prepared to offer both nutrition and comfort, containing:
- π₯£ Essential staples: Maize meal, rice, and legumes.
- π’ Nutritional supplements: Cooking oil and fortified flour.
- π A festive touch: Bringing the Christmas spirit to the dinner table.
π Grassroots Connection
What made this drive in Tigithi Ward so special wasnβt just the logistics β it was the conversations.
Moving from homestead to homestead allowed us to hear the wisdom of our shoshos and gukas.
βA community is only as strong as the way it treats its oldest members.β β Mzee Kamau
That sentiment is the heartbeat of the WaSammy Foundation.
As a Business Development Consultant, I often talk about βgrowth.β But true growth in Laikipia East must be inclusive.
We cannot move forward if we leave our history β our elders β behind.
π€² A Shared Responsibility
This initiative is a core part of our Social Welfare Pillar.
- β Securing food dignity for our elders.
- β Easing the burden on families.
- β Creating a community safety net.
To the volunteers who braved the Tigithi sun and the donors who made this possible: Asante Sana.
This December, there was no empty plate in Wathituga.
π Letβs Keep Moving Together
The journey doesnβt end in Wathituga.
We are committed to scaling these interventions across all wards of Laikipia East β from Ngobit to Umande β ensuring that dignity is a right, not a privilege.
